Chemical Imbalance Symptoms

Article by Scot Robinson

What is Chemical Imbalance? Why does it happen? What can you do about it? These are the three most important questions concerning chemical imbalance theories held by many in the bipolar community and the medical profession today. Virtually no one has the answer to why brain chemical imbalance happens. But we do know it occurs. Ask any medical professional the reasons and causes for bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety disorders and their most likely answer would be “A chemical imbalance.”

I did a bit of an experiment with a bag of their vine ripen tomatoes. June 18, 2008 I dipped these tomatoes in different types of bottled, tap, and distilled waters to see what effect the water would have on the tomatoes. Today many people drink bottled water. Often times that bottled water is processed by reverse osmosis. Most people today do not realize this water is more detrimental to health than beneficial because its ph value measures 5.0. A ph value of 5.0 is very acidic causing the body’s ph value to reduce considerable each time one drinks a bottle of the water.

For the brain to effectively communicate with itself it needs the help of a handful of chemical neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters are tiny chemical messengers that make it possible for one neuron (nerve) to communicate with another. One way to think about an ADHD chemical imbalance is that it is a problem of balance between the activities of norepinephrine and dopamine. When you fail to listen to your body’s signals the imbalance increases and then a stronger message is required, one that generally is expressed by illness or dis-ease. A heavy head is a message that you have been thinking negatively, harboring anger, resentment, guilt or humiliation.

Sometimes you might get caught up in life’s parade of work, distractions and movement and things get out of balance. It is no different than nature’s seasons. Your body goes through times of cleansing and times of robust activity. It seems to me that somewhere along the line, the cart’s been put firmly before the horse! I saw it on television the other night. They were advertising another anti-depressant drug, and there was this splendid animation of serotonin and norepinephrine bouncing alternately off a couple of drum-like things which, I suppose, had something to do with the brain.

Symptoms of hormone imbalance are caused primarily by the incorrect relationship between progesterone and estrogen levels in the body. The two female hormones, estrogen and progesterone, exist in a delicate balance. In the industrialized countries, women take birth control pills, are exposed to household chemicals at home, car exhaust and other environmental xenoestrogens.

There are serious flaws with this so let’s look a little bit deeper to show why this is complete nonsense. Imbalances are given as the cause of depressive illnesses but what about the times when you were totally happy with your life? The psychiatric drug, given for an assumed and unproven biological problem, is actually counterproductive to healing. It may control a person’s symptoms for a while because the drug dulls the patient to his or her conscious negative memories and feelings.
